Consistency of parity - violating pion - nucleon couplings extracted from measurements in 18 F and 133 Cs

چکیده
The recent measurement of the nuclear anapole moment of 133 Cs has been interpreted to yield a value of the weak pion-nucleon coupling H 1 π which contradicts the upper limit from the 18 F experiments. We argue that because of the sensitivity of the anapole moment to H 0 ρ in the odd proton nucleus 133 Cs, there is a combination of weak meson-nucleon couplings which satisfies both experiments and which is (barely) in agreement with theory. In addition, the anapole moment measurement in 205 Tl gives a constraint which is inconsistent with the value from 133 Cs, calling into question the theory of nuclear anapole moments. We argue that measurements of directional asymmetry in n + p → d + γ and in the photo-disintegration of the deuteron by circularly polarized photons, combined with results from pp scattering, would determine H 1 π and several other weak meson-nucleon couplings in a model-independent way.

Measurement of the Weak Pion - Nucleon Coupling Constant , h 1 , in Parity - Violating Backward Pion
This proposal describes a measurement of the weak pion-nucleon coupling constant to a high level of accuracy using moderate beam time in a theoretically \clean" process. We propose to measure the parity-violating asymmetry in pion photoproduction o the proton, ~ p! n . This asymmetry is expected to be 2:3 10 , and can be measured to statistical uncertainty of 0:5 10 7 at Je erson Lab in Hall A....
متن کاملParity - Violating Pion - Nucleon Coupling h ( 1 ) πNN from π + - Electroproton Production Near the Threshold
We study the possibility of measuring parity-violating pion-nucleon coupling h (1) πNN from π+-electroproton production in the threshold region. We calculate the electronhelicity asymmetry in terms of h (1) πNN and the Z-boson exchange between the electron and proton in leading-order heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory. From the result, we demonstrate that the coupling can be determined to ...

Our present understanding of the AS=O hadronic weak interaction is based on a collection of high precision experiments in the two-nucleon system and light nuclei, which isolate the weak interaction via its parity-violating signature. The weak nucleon-nucleon interaction at low and intermediate energies is described in terms of a meson exchange model involving n, p and W mesons, with one strong ...
متن کاملTwo - pion - exchange parity - violating potential and n p → dγ
We calculate the parity-violating nucleon-nucleon potential in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory up to the next-to-next-to-leading order. The one-pion exchange comes in the leading order and the next-to-next-to-leading order consists of two-pion-exchange and the two-nucleon contact terms. In order to investigate the effect of the higher order contributions, we calculate the parity-violati...
متن کاملThe Nucleon Anapole Form Factor in Chiral Perturbation Theory to Sub-leading Order
The anapole form factor of the nucleon is calculated in chiral perturbation theory to sub-leading order. This is the lowest order in which the isovector anapole form factor does not vanish. The anapole moment depends on counterterms that reflect short-range dynamics, but the momentum dependence of the form factor is determined by pion loops in terms of parameters that could in principle be fixe...
